The Mission House is a beautifully presented Grade II Listed Georgian home situated in the most historic location in Dartmouth: Bayards Cove. 

This iconic waterside area has been described as one of the finest quays in the world dating back to 1665, with a cobbled street and a mixture of 17th, 18th and 19th century buildings. 

 

Bayards Cove is steeped in rich maritime history. Bearscove Castle (locally known as Bayards Fort) at the end of the quay was built in the early 1500s offering a line of defence to protect the town. In 1620, the Mayflower and Speedwell resided here before sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to the new world of America. During World War II the area was heavily involved in water-based campaigns including the D-day landings and Operation Tiger.

The Mission House, formerly named The Seamen’s Institute (around 1860) has stood on this site since around the 1700s. Alterations during the 18th century were made to create a delightful Georgian property with many period features of this era.
